Burnley have set their sights on a new defender, with reports in France suggesting 19-year-old Ismaël Doukouré is the man wanted.

Doukouré currently plays for Strasbourg in Ligue 1 but this could be about to change according to Footmercato.

The report claims Vincent Kompany is pleased with the Frenchman’s profile and wants to bring him to Turf Moor.

Doukouré arrived at the club in January 2022 from Valenciennes. He has since made 30 appearances for the club which Todd Boehly recently bought.

Doukouré has also been linked with a move to multiple huge clubs across Europe.

He was a standout player during a youth tournament for France under-20’s and impressed; Arsenal, Newcastle, PSG, Atalanta and Sevilla among the clubs who liked the player according to 90min.

Who is Ismaël Doukouré?

Doukouré is a name likely unfamiliar to many Clarets fans, due to his relatively quick emergence last season. He has became one of France’s most promising defensive talents over the past year.

In terms of Burnley though, Doukouré could be the perfect defender for Kompany to work with.

Standing at 6 foot tall he is incredibly mobile, ranking in the 99th percentile for successful take-ons in his position. He also ranks in the 85th percentile for progressive carries according to FBRef.

His dribbling could be a huge benefit for Burnley next season who as a newly promoted side, will likely face pressure against some bigger sides.

He is also an elite level tackler averaging 1.88 tackles per game and averages a pass completion rate of 82.8% per 90.

Burnley would be signing their 3rd centre-back of the window should they complete a deal, with Dara O’Shea and Jordan Beyer joining the club from West From and Borussia Mönchengladbach respectively.

Due to this Doukouré would probably be joining the club as one for the future.
