Burnley are finally set to complete the signing of young Aston Villa talent Aaron Ramsey.

According to Alan Nixon, the Clarets have closed in on their complex deal for the 20-year-old after he watched their opening day defeat to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City as a guest at Turf Moor.

Ramsey will join Vincent Kompany’s men for £12million, although he has had to agree a new deal with Villa in case he rejoins them in the future.

An undisclosed price has been agreed between Burnley and Unai Emery’s side in case the West Midlands outfit want to re-sign him in two or more years time should he excel away from Villa Park.

The brains behind the complicated deal is Monchi, the Villans’ new President of Football Operations, who is known for his unique but successful approach to transfer dealings from his time at Sevilla.

Having made just the one appearance for Villa since graduating from their academy, Ramsey spent last season on loan in the Championship.

He first linked up with Norwich City, where he scored three goals in 20 appearances, before teaming up with Middlesbrough, where he scored five times in 11 appearances.

Prior to his second tier loans, the youngster also spent time with Cheltenham Town in League One. He grabbed one goal for the Robins in 15 appearances.

Ramsey has also been an ever-present in the England youth set-ups. He has represented the Young Lions from Under-16s through to Under-20s, finding the back of the net on four occasions for his country. The midfielder was also a part of the Under-19s Euros winning squad in 2022.

Is Ramsey the man?

Undoubtedly a player with a lot of potential, the ‘technically gifted’ playmaker is yet to experience top flight football. Burnley have often provided young talent with their first crack at the Premier League, Ramsey is now poised to be the next starlet to follow in their footsteps.

His first match for the Clarets may well be against his former club. Kompany’s men take on Villa in their next fixture on 27th August as their match away to Luton Town was postponed this weekend due to Kenilworth Road not yet being fit to host top flight games.

He will be hoping to make an instant impact, and who better to do it against than your former side?
