Burnley continue to move swiftly in the transfer market, however they could be missing a trick by not moving for this Manchester United youngster.

The Clarets have been keen on bringing Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen back to the club after his impressive displays last season for them. However a deal has been hard to come by meaning they may look elsewhere.

Elsewhere could come in the form of Manchester United’s young Spaniard, Alvaro Fernandez, who impressed last season while on loan at Preston North End. He now however finds himself back at Old Trafford and with Luke Shaw an ever present, he has no route to the first team.

In order to continue his development though, United will probably be keen to find him a loan move. Following his Championship success, the logical progression would see him head to a Premier League side.

This is where we step in, with the left-back berth needing filled, in Fernandez, The Clarets would be getting a wonderfully gifted technical player who has an eye for an assist. It could be a great move for all parties involved.

What would Fernandez bring to Turf Moor?

Despite having no Premier League experience, Fernandez looked right at home and level above in the Championship and therefore a step-up shouldn’t faze him. The player was praised by Neil Wood for his ‘outstanding’ performances for Preston.

He assisted four Championship goals but created six big chances and averaged a key pass per game from left-back. Despite constantly playing forward he had a solid pass completion rate and was heavily involved in the game with over 45 touches per game.

Defensively Fernandez was also solid, he was required to defend a lot at Preston and this is evident in his statistics, averaging 1.7 tackles per 90 with 1.1 interceptions as well.

He was dangerous on the ball dribbling forward into space and completed 1.3 dribbles per 90, and also won 54% of his total duels.

Fernandez would undoubtedly be a risk, however the Vincent Kompany style of play suits him so well, I think he would be brilliant.
