Burnley’s attempts to bring Nathan Tella back to the club this summer have been rebuffed so far.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, writing on his Patreon page, Burnley have had a £9 million offer for Nathan Tella rejected by Southampton, who are said to want at least £15 million for the player.

Burnley may not be ready to give up the chase, and could go back to the Saints with another offer.

Vincent Kompany would certainly love to bring Tella back to Turf Moor. The 24-year-old spent last season on loan with the Clarets and played a huge role in firing the club to the Championship title. Tella would surely be a key figure for them again this season in the Premier League, if they can secure his return.

Nathan Tella is ready for the Premier League

In 39 Championship appearances last season, Tella produced 17 goals and 5 assists. Kompany hailed the forward as being “extremely dangerous” in front of goal, as quoted by LancsLive.

With Southampton having been relegated, and having witnessed Tella tear up the second tier last season, it’s easy to see why they would wish to keep the versatile attacker on the books at St Mary’s Stadium.

From Tella’s point of view, he will likely be keen to prove his quality in the top flight. Burnley should push harder to get a deal done to give him that chance. Even if they have to go all the way up to meeting Southampton’s demands, Burnley should make that sacrifice.

However, Kompany is also certainly laying the groundwork for life without Tella. New forwards Zeki Amdouni and Nathan Redmond have been brought into the club this summer. There will still be room for Tella though, if Burnley can break through Southampton’s resolve to keep the player on the south coast.
