Good and bad news as Burnley announce striker signing

The Clarets have announced the permanent signing of Ireland’s Michael Obafemi, while also revealing some bad news too.

The 22-year-old Irish international spent the second half of last season on loan at Turf Moor. He made 14 appearances for Burnley, scoring two goals including a huge 95th-minute equaliser against Watford.

He has now made the move permanently to The Clarets and will be keen to establish himself as a Premier League worthy striker.

The announcement came by chance, with Burnley casually mentioning in a press statement.

“The Dublin-born striker, who signed permanently for the Clarets at the start of this month,” not quite the huge announcement most players dream of.

The forward will be hopeful he can now settle at a club, having moved around consistently over the past few years.

He may have to wait for his next appearance however as, along with his signing, Burnley also announced that he is currently injured.

The club revealed, “Scans have shown Michael Obafemi suffered a hamstring injury during his recent international outing.”

Before adding, “The 22-year-old forward picked up the injury while away on international duty playing for Ireland against Gibraltar and was substituted just before the hour mark.”

That is a sad way to announce a signing, and he will be hoping to bounce back as soon as possible.

The latest Burnley transfer news

Burnley are beginning to look incredibly active in the transfer window with two huge rumours coming out.

The signing of James Trafford seems inevitable, with Fabrizio Romano saying a deal is done.

Meanwhile there are reportedly current negotiations with Fenerbahce regarding the potential sale of Arijanet Muric to make space for Trafford.

While Burnley fans remain hopeful that a move for Nathan Tella from Southampton will transpire.

Obafemi looks set to be the first in a line of transfer moves, as The Clarets gear up for their Premier League return against Manchester City.
