Burnley striker Lyle Foster’s former coach revealed how manager Vincent Kompany scouted him.
Foster joined Burnley in January from Belgian side KVC Westerlo and scored one goal in eleven appearances as he helped the Clarets win the Championship.
Now in the Premier League, he has scored two goals in their opening three games of the season.
Augusto Palacios, Foster’s former coach at South African side Orlando Pirates, spoke about what happened that lead to Kompany scouting Foster, and eventually signing him.
“When an international coach can go and watch a player and then sign him then it means there is something special about that player,” Palacios told Soccer Laduma.
“Vincent Kompany went to Belgium to watch Lyle Foster and he was impressed. There had been a lot of other scouts that had been following Lyle and Vincent was made aware of him and he liked what he saw and signed him.
Foster given chance in the Premier League

Palacios went on to explain that Kompany was actually sat next to Foster’s parents, little did they know that the man next to them would give there son a chance in the Premier League.
“When Kompany went to watch Lyle Foster, he was sitting next to the player’s presents and the father didn’t know that Vincent was there to watch his son.
After the game, somebody introduced Kompany to Lyle’s parents and as they say the rest is history. Look at the boy now, he has scored two goals in three games in the Premier League and I am proud of him.
As you might know by now, I am very passionate about young players and I am very proud of all my boys that have gone on to represent the country (South Africa).”
