Micah Richards lays into ‘naive’ Burnley side, they’ve ‘not done’ their style well

Burnley lost their third game on the bounce last weekend against Tottenham, which has led Micah Richards to slate their performance.

Albeit they have had a difficult opening run of fixtures, Burnley have been hugely disappointing.

Tipped by many to be a club good enough to be pushing toward a upper mid-table place.

The big concern has been that the defence is shipping goals at the moment with five conceded against Spurs.

In an attacking sense, Burnley haven’t looked bad at all, but with a defence so leaky, they will never be able to win games.

This is an area of the game that has come in line for particular critique by Micah Richards.

Richards on the Burnley defence

Richards was speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football‘ about the Burnley result.

He admitted he wasn’t happy with the performance and expected more.

“I’m so disappointed with Burnley, I watched them on the opening weekend it was a Friday Night Football, and yes it was against top opposition,”

He added: “But all the stuff they had done well in the Championship, they’ve not done in the Premier League.”

He then added that he thinks his former teammate Vincent Kompany needs to change his style.

“They’re so naive at the back, yes Vincent Kompany has a style of play and he want’s to stick to that… but sometimes as a manager you need to say ‘we need to adapt to what we’re up against and they keep making the same mistakes.”

Next up, Burnley face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in what already has become a must win game this season.
