Burnley weren’t in action last weekend due to the game at Kenilworth Road being postponed due to ongoing construction.

Therefore in order to keep match-fitness, the Clarets have played a friendly game against Manchester United.

The game was played behind closed doors and was purely played for fitness reasons, as the 20-time Premier League champions fielding a second string line-up.

The game saw Burnley embarrass United in their training ground, with a 3-0 win, which will give Vincent Kompany some much needed confidence after the 3-0 loss to City.

While obviously it means very little in the grand scheme of things, it is worth noting the victory as it is hugely impressive from Burnley.

Burnley thrash United behind closed doors

Manchester United have had some early season turbulence which has resulted in two additional back-to-back friendlies which were previously un-scheduled.

Burnley will have only piled onto this misery for Erik ten Hag with the 3-0 win at Carrington.

It is claimed that the United side Burnley beat included; Jonny Evans, Hannibal Mejbri, Alvaro Fernandez, Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek, and Facundo Pellistri who all started the game.

Interestingly this seems to be a line-up full of players who have uncertain futures this season at Old Trafford as they’ve all been linked with moves away.

Burnley now face Aston Villa in their second Premier League game this weekend, with a win on the agenda at Turf Moor.

Kompany will be aided by more additions to his squad which has seen Aaron Ramsey sign permanently from Aston Villa.

No doubt however this win will have Kompany excited to see if his team can do it for real this weekend.
