Burnley have agreed a deal to sign St Mirren ‘sensation’ Murray Campbell.

According to TEAMtalk, the centre back has signed a two-year-deal at Turf Moor, and the Clarets are awaiting international clearance before officially confirming the move.

Burnley are said to see Campbell becoming a ‘star’ for the club and are hoping he can develop into a first team player in the future.

Burnley have managed to beat off plenty of competition for the 17-year-old, with the likes of fellow Premier League clubs Wolves, Crystal Palace and Tottenham all registering an interest.

It is highly likely that he will initially link up the with the club’s Under-18s or Under-21s, with manager Vincent Kompany said to be ‘eager’ to build up a strong academy so that the club can have plenty if young players coming through and playing for the first team in the years to come.

Campbell is said to be regarded as one of the best young players in Scotland, impressing for St Mirren’s youth sides along with representing Scotland at Under-16 and Under-17 level in the last year.

Burnley are clearly trying to push this narrative, as they have signed a number of young players this summer.

Notable signings include James Trafford, who joined from Manchester City for a fee of £19 million after impressing at the U21 Euros  for England and last season in League One for Bolton Wanderers.

They also signed attackers 18-year-old Luca Koleosho from Espanyol and 19-year-old Wilson Odobert from Troyes for a combined £15 million, and tried to resign 21-year-old Ian Maatsen, so are clearly looking to build for the future.
