Aston Villa starlet Aaron Ramsey has emerged as a summer transfer target for Burnley.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, writing on his Patreon page, Burnley are set to launch a £10 million bid to land Aaron Ramsey from Aston Villa.
It would be a bold move from Burnley, as Ramsey is highly-rated at Aston Villa. The younger brother of Villa first-team star Jacob Ramsey, the 20-year-old got his chance to shine last season when he joined Championship outfit Middlesbrough on loan in January.
Ramsey made 11 league appearances in his impressive stint with Boro, scoring 5 goals. His manager at the Riverside Stadium, Michael Carrick, highlighted some of the young midfielder’s best qualities, saying, “he’s intelligent, he sacrifices himself…he’s just a good footballer…I thought his football intelligence and quality on the ball was fantastic,” as quoted by Teesside Live.
Vincent Kompany will certainly have noted Ramsey’s impressive showings in the second tier last season. The Belgian coach has quickly garnered a reputation for nurturing young talents and helping them progress towards fulfilling their potential. Ramsey could be the next youngster to flourish under Kompany’s guidance.

Ramsey a long-term gamble
However, £10 million is a significant sum for newly-promoted Burnley to invest in the England under-20 international. The Clarets’ primary focus this summer should be ensuring that they have what they need in the squad to secure Premier League survival this season. Ramsey probably isn’t yet ready to step up to that task in the top flight.
One thing that fans will be pleased to see, though, is that the club are attempting to bring Ramsey to Turf Moor on a permanent basis. Kompany has made great use of the loan market since his arrival at the club, but it has been a bittersweet process.
For instance, Ian Maatsen impressed and progressed significantly whilst on loan with Burnley last season. Kompany put a lot into the young full-back’s development, and the fact that the Clarets seem certain to fail in their attempts to bring him back this summer will come as a blow.
It would be a risk for Burnley to bring in Ramsey now, but at least they’d be protecting themselves by securing his services for the long term.
