Wout Weghorst previously seemed destined to depart Burnley following a string of loans, however the forward is now looking to stay.
Weghorst joined Burnley in January 2022 in a £15million move which was doomed from the beginning. Scoring just two goals in his 20 games and failing to help The Clarets survive relegation.
Only staying six months, he then moved to Super Lig in Turkey with Besiktas taking him on loan. Weghorst reignited his goalscoring streak which saw him a favourite at Wolfsburg.

Ultimately his nine goals in 18 games earned him a January 2023 loan move to Manchester United. His scoring touch quickly deserted him though, scoring just two goals and missing a whopping eight big chances as per SofaScore.
Now the Dutchman has returned to Turf Moor and despite a move previously seeming nailed on, reports now contrast this.
Weghorst set on staying at Burnley
According to journalist Will Lancaster, Wout Weghorst is set to stay at Turf Moor this coming year.
He tweeted, “Understand Wout Weghorst is focused on playing for Burnley next season.”
Weghorst had previously thought to be a volatile presence in the dressing room but according to the report, this turbulence has been put to rest.
“Told striker has settled score with squad after turbulent relations and is determined to make the difference for Vincent Kompany.”
It is also worth noting that an exit isn’t ruled out, however it is thought this was a huge step toward the Dutchman staying.
Weghorst had previously been linked with a move back to Besiktas on a permanent deal, but it now seems likely he will be staying as an option for Kompany next season.
With Burnley in need of a striker given the lack of clinical goalscoring last season, this could be a good move for both player and club. Assuming he can find some of his Besiktas and Wolfsburg form under Kompany.
