Burnley are interested in signing American right-back Reggie Cannon.

According to the Daily Mail, Burnley along with Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City, are looking at him after he left Boavista in the Portuguese top flight this summer.

He had his contract cancelled at Boavista following a legal dispute over unpaid wages, which he won.

It is claimed by Cannon that he was only paid on time once in three years at Boavista.

It is said that he had plenty of offers to move back to the States, but prefers to continue his career in Europe for now. Cannon is the grandson of atmospheric scientist Dr Warren Washington.

Cannon is a 25-year-old American international, who can also play at wing-back and centre back.

He joined Boavista in the summer of 2020, and made 72 appearances for them in the league, but didn’t score a goal.

He joined Boavista from FC Dallas in the MLS, where he made 75 appearances before his departure. For his nation he has made 28 appearances to date, being a regular for the side since 2018.

Burnley currently have plenty of options at right back with Vitinho and Connor Roberts, so if they were to bring Cannon in it is unclear as to how they would use him.

They could potentially use him at left-back, with the Clarets looking at bolstering their options in that position. They have been linked with resigning Ian Maatsen from Chelsea after his loan spell last season, and Manchester United’s Alvaro Fernandez.

Burnley have also been looking to bolster their wing options. They have started to push in their pursuit of PSV’s Johan Bakayoko, but he has heavy interest from PSG. They also lost out on resigning last season’s star Nathan Tella, who joined Bayer Leverkusen for £20 million on Sunday afternoon.
