Burnley are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Renato Veiga.
According to German outlet Fussball Transfers, Burnley have made offers to the club and player in an attempt to secure his services.
The offer to Sporting is said to be £5.5 million, split up into three instalments.
Burnley are facing competition for his signature however, with FC Basel of Switzerland also working in signing him.
Basel are said to have offered Veiga a four-year-deal, whilst Burnley have offered a five-year-deal.
Veiga has also been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany, but reportedly is not a top priority for them.
Would Renato Veiga be a good signing?

Veiga is 20 years old, stands at six foot two and is a defensive midfielder, but can also play at centre-back or left-back.
He’s come through the academy at Sporting, coming through all the age groups up to the B team, who he has made over 50 appearances for. He is yet to play for the first team at Sporting.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Augsburg in the Bundesliga, making 13 appearances in the league.
He has also represented Portugal at U20 level, captaining the side too.
Manager Vincent Kompany is said to be looking at midfield reinforcements, with Veiga seemingly at the top of the list, and with his contract expiring in 2025, now may be the best time for the Clarets to swoop in.
Earlier today Josh Cullen signed a contract extension at the club to keep him at Turf Moor until 2026, which will come as good news. However, Josh Brownhill has been linked recently with a move to West Ham United.
Veiga would fit Burnley’s model of signing young, up and coming players who could develop into brilliant players with the right coaching.
