Burnley are interested in resigning Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen.

According to the Daily Mail, Burnley are one of many sides that are ‘keen’ to sign the Dutchman, with talks over a new contract at Stamford Bridge stalling.

Maatsen is said to have been offered a long-term deal to stay in London, but is unsure ‘over the terms and validity of signing it’.

Other clubs interested in his services amongst Burnley are the likes of West Ham United and Borussia Dortmund. It is said all three can match Chelsea’s contract offer, and even better it.

Maatsen’s decision over his new deal could affect or even scupper Marc Cucurella’s potential move to Manchester United. Maatsen is said to have impressed manager Mauricio Pochettino during pre-season, so they would rather keep Maatsen and let Cucurella go.

Maatsen is a 21-year-old Dutch left-back, who has been on Chelsea’s books since the summer of 2018, when he joined from PSV Eindhoven for a fee believed to be around €110,000.

He will be no stranger to Burnley fans, having spent last season on loan at Turf Moor, helping Burnley win the Championship and make an instant return to the top flight. He went on to make 39 appearances, scoring four goals and getting six assists.

It is no surprise that manager Vincent Kompany would want him back. Burnley are reportedly interested in signing a left-back, with Charlie Taylor being the only senior option, with U21 player Owen Dodgson their current backup.

They have been linked with Manchester United’s Spaniard Alvaro Fernandez in recent days, but also face competition for him from Granada in Spain. He also spent last season on loan in the Championship at Preston.
