Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill is said to be attracting interest from West Ham United, amid the possible departure of Lucas Paqueta.

According to the Express, the Hammers have held initial talks with the Clarets over a potential move.

The Hammers are not the only ones after him, with several other unnamed clubs said to be interested. However, it appears that West Ham are leading the race, due to the fact they can offer the 27-year-old European football.

Burnley may also let him go on the cheap, as he only has one year remaining on his contract at Burnley.

West Ham have been looking to recruit for their midfield, bringing in Edson Alvarez last week and James Ward-Prowse earlier today.

Would Burnley regret letting Josh Brownhill go?

Brownhill has been a regular for the Clarets ever since joining from Bristol City back in January 2020, making at least 33 league appearances in every full season since his arrival.

He played a key role for the Clarets last season, captaining Burnley to the Championship title, making 41 appearances and scoring seven goals. Despite this, he did not start their opening day loss to Manchester City, instead coming on as a late substitute.

After the signing of Sander Berge from fellow Premier League side Sheffield United last week, and Burnley potentially bringing in more midfielders like Albert Sambi-Lokonga from Arsenal, Brownhill has fallen down the pecking order, which will make him more keen to move on. Burnley will also want to cash in on him ratherthan let him go on a free next summer.
